Stop Beating Yourself Up!

I don’t know about you. But sometimes I beat myself up when I think I screwed up. And then I feel bad about feeling bad. Then I add onto that by looking for comfort and reassurance. I do that by calling friends and turning into a giant ball of needy unworthiness. Then I round it all off by feeling bad about being needy. Self-judgment is such a self-destructive cycle.

This cycle of self-destruct often occurs after I have an angry outburst about something. I go round and round about it in my head. I become consumed by guilt and self-recrimination. That’s when using a Spiritual tool helps.

Using my deck of tarot cards for self-exploration is great for that. I can sit down with them and ask for insight. Looking at the story within the card(s) or even just reading the definition, if my mind is busy beating myself up, helps to get me connect to love again. When I feel stuck, I like to take a few deep breaths, pick a card or 3, and then listen for Spirit’s messages.

Recently I was feeling frustrated and guilty about something and was having a hard time shifting. I sat down, took a few deep breaths and pulled a few cards. I asked Spirit for a message. Guess what the first message was? “Don’t be so judgy!” Bahahahaha! Perfect. I was judging myself for what happened and then judging myself for judging. The next two cards encouraged me to approach it with curiosity and to accept change. In that moment, working with the cards created the clearing that I needed so that a mind shift could occur.

By holding a loving space of acceptance and curiosity I was able to support myself. I was being reminded to be gentle with myself! Self-judgement is both a subtle and blatant sticky ball of goo. And as our negative thoughts start rolling, it gathers more gunk along the way.

Practicing acceptance, curiosity, and connection leads us back to love. Thanks Spirit for that reminder!

You taught yourself the most unusual habit of not communicating with Source. Yet you remain in close communication with Source, and with everything that is within Source, as it is within yourself. Unlearn isolation through Source's loving guidance, and learn of all the happy communication that you have thrown away but could not lose.
