Piglet or Pooh? Which are You?

I’m writing this while looking out my window and wondering if Ian will show up as a tropical storm or hurricane. I live on the coast of North Carolina. My sense is that it will be a tropical storm. The wind is blowing and the song playing in my head is one from a Winnie the Pooh cartoon that I watched as a kid, “And the rain, rain, rain, came down, down, down…” I feel more like Pooh than Piglet in this case.

Don’t get me wrong, I have a tender place in my heart for Piglet. He’s quietly intelligent, kind, gentle, and agreeable. He just always seems to worry about what is or was going to happen. He looked outside himself for reassurance.

AND I definitely have Piglet moments in my life.

I find that I become more like Piglet when I forget to trust in my Higher Power and more like Pooh when I do. Sans the obsessive need for honey of course. LOL. Or maybe honey is a metaphor for focusing on the sweeter things in life: kindness, acceptance, and love.

The upside of living in an area where people are erring on the side of Piglet energy is that I’m experiencing an unexpected day off to write and get caught up on household tasks. I just got back on Monday night from a 10-day visit home. I jumped right into work as soon as I got back. My choice. I love what I do. Today I get to settle into my Pooh energy and enjoy whatever unfolds. And lots of honey is showing up.

And then of course let’s not forget: Eeyore, Tigger, Owl, Rabbit, Kanga, Roo, or Christopher Robbin. I can relate to all the quirks in their personalities as well. Eeyore and I have been particularly close lately.

Which character do you feel like today?

The thing I love about the adventures of Winnie the Pooh, is that regardless of how anyone showed up, they were always accepted, and everything all worked out in the end. Imagine what life would be like if we treated all parts of ourselves like that and believed that everything always does work out in the end.

And for all of you Winnie the Pooh lovers out there, here’s a link to the song/story that I woke up thinking of today. Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCkcgpz9hM8
